The Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, Ambassador Ian Madeleine met with the Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, Mrs. Young-Min Kang on Thursday 13 November 2025 at Maison Queau de Quinssy.
During their meeting, the two diplomats touched on the importance being given to artificial intelligence and digital transformation by both countries. Ambassador Madeleine stressed Seychelles’ interest in partnering with the Republic of South Korea in these fields.
Ambassador Madeleine also brought up the topic of capacity building, noting that enhanced collaboration in this domain would be of great benefit to Seychelles for school leavers and technicians, notably in the fields of artificial intelligence and information technology.
The two diplomats also discussed strengthening people-to-people ties, whereby Ambassador Madeleine expressed the government’s interest in signing a visa-waiver agreement with the Republic of South Korea for diplomatic and official passport holders and eventually extending it to normal passports.
Tourism between the two countries, the Korea-Africa Summit and the resumption of a joint commission between Seychelles and South Korea were among other topics brought up during the encounter.
To note, Seychelles and South Korea will be celebrating 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 2026.
